Welcome! (Lady – D’Angelo Live @ The Jazz Cafe)

Welcome to “Soul Right Now!” If you’ve found this spot via “Put The Needle On The Record,” what’s happening? I started this blog as a little side project to highlight some more recent Soul/Jazz/Funk that I’ve been getting down on. And I wanted to check out WordPress as well. I’ve made a few rules for myself. There will be nothing here pre-1990. But, we are still looking for the same quality music. Let’s start things off with one of the baddest and most elusive cats, a Brutha from my hometown, D’Angelo. This one comes off the SUPER RARE recording from the Jazz Cafe in London from the world tour for his first LP. He was traveling with a SUPER tight band as you’ll hear. “Lady” was probably the third single off his smash solo debut. The video was shot here in Richmond, VA and featured some our most famous spots including an old movie theater and one of the oldest shopping centers in town that he no doubt visited frequently.

Here’s the Jazz Cafe get down. This CD is still in print and a bit pricey, but well worth tracking down. I sure hope “D” makes another record. I really miss him.
